Food Processing Plant
Andover
TFT were appointed on recommendation from Crawford & Company, corporate and major incident loss adjusters, to demolish fire damaged buildings and manage the repair of remaining structures at a major food processing plant which was badly damaged by fire.
The meat cutting plant specialises in the production of fresh lamb for the meat industry with chilled warehouses and mechanised cutting and packing facilities. Damage was extensive and the first stage of the project was management of the £70k demolition contract followed by £130k repairs to a part-damaged building. The latter is a steel portal-framed shed with polystyrene-filled composite panels to the walls and ceiling. Fortunately this building was saved from complete destruction due to wind direction and efforts by the fire brigade. Where the polystyrene did ignite, about 45 linear meters of the elevation and part of the asbestos cement roof was severely damaged and required renewal.
All works needed to be completed in the shortest possible delay to ensure operations were able to recommence. Complete redevelopment of the buildings that were lost is scheduled to follow as a separate scheme.
