Paul specialises in the project management and contract administration of major new-build and refurbishment schemes, both in the education and housing sectors. Over the years, he has been extensively involved in the partnering process and framework agreements.
He has delivered a number of high-profile education projects, including the £23 million Chessington Community College for the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, which was the first school to be completed under the One School Pathfinder Scheme.
My favourite projects have included the rebuilding of Chessington Community College where we were shortlisted for the RICS ‘Community Benefit Scheme’ and the Knowle male offenders care home in Cheltenham where I was fortunate enough to meet Sir Terry Waite at the formal handover.
I have also been involved in some highly unusual instructions: a particularly memorable one was dealing with the insurance claim and re-construction of a residential property in Hampshire where the front of the building had been demolished by an out-of-control tank.
When not at work, I enjoy activities such as skiing, cycling, sea kayaking and indulging my inner surfer with body boarding. Travelling is also a passion and a recent tour of China included the site of the Terracotta Warriors at Xi’an and the Great Wall of China, which had a fascinating sticky rice-flour mortar construction incidentally – it proves that you can take the surveyor out of Guildford, but you can’t take the interest in buildings out of the surveyor.
