Net Zero Carbon

We promote a net zero carbon approach to existing and new buildings, on top of existing EPC and MEES regulations.

Our work focuses on closing the gap between building design intent and actual building energy performance. We do this by undertaking forensic, dynamic simulation energy modelling. Whilst we can assess developments for Building Regulations compliance, we encourage our clients to look beyond the standard.

We regularly undertake passive design analysis, review performance and cost viability for different energy supply technologies and investigate potential energy demand reduction as part of low and zero carbon (LZC) feasibility studies, allowing us to recommend design improvements to our clients and design teams.

Net zero carbon: a holistic sustainability approach

With significant scope to improve the sustainability performance of existing buildings, TFT reviews holistic sustainability opportunities and constraints of assets to provide a pathway to improvement across a range of areas which optimise building performance and occupant satisfaction.

We are experienced at coordinating the review of whole portfolios, and with supporting facilities management teams in on-the-ground delivery.  The output is a clear pathway of recommended actions against timescales and budget to support continual improvement and avoid obsolescence.

Net zero carbon and climate change

We undertake life cycle assessments (LCA) to evaluate whole life carbon (WLC) emissions for developments and refurbishments to help our clients reach their net zero objectives.

This includes assessing the design performance against industry carbon benchmarks and identifying measures to reduce embodied and operational carbon emissions. We help clients identify areas most at risk from future climatic changes. Through our expertise in IES modelling, we analyse internal and external thermal comfort and inform on risks, such as overheating, to focus interventions that will ensure a
comfortable environmental for users today.

Working with design teams, we can prepare a climate resilience hazard matrix to ensure everyone has accounted for opportunities to mitigate against current and future extreme weather events and likely climatic changes to future-proof the asset and optimise maintenance.
