Hilary is a chartered structural engineer, a chartered arbitrator and a fellow of the APS and joined us recently to head up our CDM department in the London office. Hilary brings a wealth of experience from all sides of the construction industry, in contracting, consulting and client side, and in design, project management and all things CDM. She is passionate about de-risking all stages of the construction process, so her aim is not just to engage with the designers in the design risk management process, but to translate the wins and certainty of that process into buildable structures for the contractor and ultimately deliver maintainable and useable projects for the client.
I have had the benefit over many years of working with exceptional engineers and colleagues in highly motivated and supportive teams and experiencing collaboration at its best to resolve real issues affecting real people in the world of construction. Beyond the UK, I have had the pleasure of working in France, Germany and Romania and am very glad that dimensions are simple to translate into any language.
When not engineering, my husband and I are often entertaining and engaging with people in the community, which comes with the territory of being a Baptist minister’s wife. I especially enjoyed the challenge of working with a drug and alcohol rehabilitation charity until moving back to London last year. When it is just family, it’s games, baking, long walks in Bushy Park and anything creative – latest venture is wet and needle felting… and yes, I probably should have done a risk assessment on those needles!
