Post-Occupancy Evaluation

Post-Occupancy Evaluation

Post occupancy evaluation (POE) provides in-use performance feedback on a building’s impact on its users. It can cover variables including: thermal comfort, visual comfort, facility provision, privacy, spatial familiarity, accessibility, modes of transport to and from the building, and more.

TFT tailors each post occupancy evaluation to the needs of a building occupier or owner client. These can suit the requirements for specific building certifications too, such as WELL Building Standard, Aftercare, BREEAM, LEED and similar. This means we are able to identify and improve the actual operational performance of a development, and not rely on the design intent alone.

How should you undertake post occupancy evaluation?

Post occupancy evaluations are best undertaken as part of coordinated aftercare procedures including an appraisal of in-use energy and water. Commissioning and re-commissioning review activities can enhance operational performance of the building, and the internal comfort and wellbeing of its occupants.

TFT post occupancy evaluations follow the Building Use Studies Ltd. (BUS) Methodology. We are a BUS Methodology Partner, part of a network of specialists developing industry best practice in the field. The BUS methodology is the only post occupancy evaluation approach outside North America approved for compliance with the WELL Building Standard by the International Well Building Institute (IWBI).
