Our Edinburgh office is now ten years old! As we pass the parcel and munch our birthday cake, our team has been sharing their personal milestones from along the way, and looking forward at what’s still to come.

Whether they’ve been with us since day one, or are just at the start of their journey, here's to all the good times ahead.

Now here’s a party game for you: can you match each team member to their childhood snap (above)? Good luck.

They grow up so fast!

Neil Wotherspoon (over 10 years in Edinburgh, having founded our office there!)

“What a fantastic first decade! Yes it's been tough at times, but most of the time it's been a total blast. I am really proud to have played a leading part in developing the office, but I am most proud of the awesome team and culture we have developed.

My twin daughters, now 7, have enjoyed the offices over the years. They think the current office is a castle, but they miss, as does the rest of the team, theg olf course in our old office.

I was most proud to play a role in Nuveen and APG’s development of St James Quarter in Edinburgh. St James Quarter, Edinburgh is Scotland’s largest and most significant mixed-use development project in a generation. We were appointed as Project Monitoring Surveyor for the entire c.£1bn development.

My kids still think I designed and built it, and even thought I operated the cranes. I don’t have the heart to tell them.

What's next? Well, we’ve got a brilliant team and brilliant clients. There's so much more we can achieve together in the next 10 years.”

“Being part of the UK Net Zero Carbon Building Standard’s task group on operational energy and seeing the pilot standard launched was a real highlight. I’m also proud of our work on Pavilion 4, Eco-Park, Aberdeen – our first £1M+ cross-hub design project in Edinburgh.”

“Looking ahead, I’m excited (and a little nervous!) about the growth and change the business will go through as we embrace digital transformation and the shifting landscape of decarbonisation.”

Emily Baigent (3+ years including placement since August 2022)

“I’ve loved working on sustainability and The Shelbourne Hotel Dublin – it’s been a brilliant experience.”

“Professionally, I’m looking forward to helping deliver the energy improvement works I scoped earlier this year for a confidential 5* hotel in central London. Personally, I’m aiming to complete my first full-distance Ironman!”

Louise Campbell (3.5 years in Edinburgh)

“I don’t work on projects directly, but I’m proud of helping to create our new job forms, which will help smooth the admin processes a bit, though it was hard work! As for what’s next, I’m looking forward to seeing the Edinburgh team grow and be filled with lots more brilliant people.”

Emily Brodie (6 years in Edinburgh)

“I’ve really valued being involved in BPF Futures - the Scottish chapter started less than four years ago and I’ve been lucky to have TFT’s support in my vice-chair role. Is it too cliché to say the next ten could be our best yet? The team continues to grow and develop, and that’s really exciting to be a part of.”

Craig Raeburn (2.5 years in Edinburgh)

“My proudest achievement is being promoted to MEP Director – it’s been a rewarding journey. I’m looking forward to continuing to grow the business here in Edinburgh over the next ten years.”

Sophie (1 year in Edinburgh)

“I’m an apprentice in the team, so I’m proud of achieving grades over 70% in my university studies alongside my work here. It’s been hard but I’m excited to gain chartership with the RICS next.”

“Looking back on the time I’ve been here, we can’t forget all the challenges that COVID presented, and how we overcame them. Personally, I’m proud of the developer and client endorsements I’ve received after delivering significant fund monitoring and TDD instructions. Some project highlights include coordinating a multi-billion pound and euro RCA portfolio – that involved inspecting 148 properties across 10.4 million sqft in six weeks!

What’s next? I’d have to say even more of the same! We never take for granted how fortunate we are to work with such great colleagues and clients on such interesting instructions.”

Greg Case (with us in Edinburgh since September 2023)

"I’m proud of the variety of work I've taken on, and the clients that I have work with over the last 2 years. Furthermore, I feel I have really grown as a graduate building surveyor. Next for me is getting chartered in 2026 (hopefully!) and getting involved in more of the inspection portfolios we pick up across the UK (such as holiday parks in the Lakes and Scottish Highlands)."

Euan Findlay (a year and a bit in the team)

"I've enjoyed getting stuck in to work, most recently with Breahead Shopping Centre in Glasgow.  It's a large asset at over 1.1 million sqft and with over 100 retail stores! So it was challenge to document and understand all the landlord systems before producing a capital expenditure plan for the centre for the next 10 years. For me, I'm looking forward to expanding and improving my knowledge with many more projects to come."

Alice Davyson (3 months in Edinburgh!)

"I am really proud of the embodied carbon work I have been doing with the wider TFT team, working to ensure that the carbon emitted by projects is appropriately tracked and mitigated against where possible. The work we are doing now will likely shape how many of our clients think about embodied carbon in the future, so getting it right is incredibly important."
